A Worm in Apple

images2.jpgThis week marked the premiere of another new technology to be unleashed on mankind. Hold on, it’s not something that will help us learn or evolve or become better human beings because it’s a new cell phone. That’s right, the most inhumanne, evil, abhorrent of mankind’s creations since the Flowbee just got a little more evil. This time, it’s Apple that wrapped their greedy tentacles around the cell phone with the iPhone. But wait, they got sued! Is someone going to stop them from unleashing this upon the world? No, they’re suing over the name iPhone.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) said Wednesday it is suing Apple Inc. in federal court over Apple’s use of Cisco’s registered iPhone trademark for its new handheld device.Cisco has owned the trademark on the name “iPhone” since 2000, when it acquired InfoGear Technology Corp., which originally registered the name.

And three weeks ago, Cisco’s Linksys division put the trademark to use, releasing an Internet-enabled phone called “iPhone” that uses the increasingly popular Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP.

They’re suing over the name? Who would want to take credit for that? How much imagination does it take to come up with the name, iPhone? The dumbest person in the world could have had 25 tries to name it, and still come up with it.

Cisco is seeking an injunction to keep Apple from using the name, which could delay the release of Apple’s new phone. Well, hell, maybe this lawsuit isn’t so dumb after all.
