Birth of a Lawsuit

May 13th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Some people sue other people for money. Some people sue other people for damages. Some people sue for custody of their children, their property or their placentas. You heard me.

According to KXNT Radio of Las Vegas, a new mother is suing a hospital because they won’t let her keep her placenta so she can eat it.

Why would anyone want to eat their own placenta? If you have to ask that question, do you even want to hear the reason?

The hospital wouldn’t give it to her because they said it was contaminated. But that didn’t stop the mother from protesting the hospital complete with signs that read “Free the Placenta,” which probably made passersby wondering why the hospital was keeping an 80’s new wave band against their will.

The mother also said she plans to contact Planned Parenthood and the ACLU for help. Both could not be reached for comment as they were busy helping a Minnesota’s father fight to gain custody of his appendix so he can eat it. They are rushing the case because the father is holding a dinner party in a week.

First off, great job, that was one of the funniest things I’ve read… and I’ve been checking out the dumb network too. Anyways, was this woman on drugs, because I can only think of one reason to eat it, and to believe it would mean your probibly insane, on some hella drugs, or a lovely combination of both…. tell me if she does well with the suit though… I’m gonna look into getting my tonsils back.

Actually, some people consider eating of the placenta (placentophagy) to be a preventative for post-partum depression.

Obviously, in this day and age it’s a little odd to eat your own placenta, but it’s really no reason to assume she was crazy or on drugs. There are plenty of people who think it’s a fine thing to do.

In any case, it’s her own placenta, she should be allowed to do what she wants with it. It’s not like she wants to eat someone ELSE’S placenta.

    THAT would be weird.

I can see how this ends - she wins the lawsuit, gets her CONTAMINATED (you catch that, Martina? It’s her own contaminated placenta, sure the hospital should just let her eat it) placenta back, eats it, gets sick, and sues the hospital for: 1. contaminating her placenta and 2. for providing her with a contaminated placenta, despite the fact that she had sued for it.
