In King County, WA a group of foster kids beat up a Somali refugee, but according to the legal system, they aren’t to blame. The refugee’s lawyer claims that the beating was a result of negligence by the foster care system and that the kids should have been in a more restrictive environment. This contradicts basic parenthood principles as putting kids in a jail-like setting for not having parents is morally wrong. The jury did not agree apparently and ruled in favor of the plaintiff. Furthermore, Shell Oil ended up paying $300,000 since the beating took place at one of their gas stations. I suppose the phrase, “Life isn’t fair” is appropriate here.
