Breaking and Entering, and Then Suing

For once here at Dumb-Lawsuits, we have some good news to report. It’s not “Hey, Angelina Jolie’s in your living room and she’s saying she wants you to be her ‘Billy Bob’” good news, but it’s good news nonetheless.

According to the Hawaiian Legislative archives, the Legislature is considering a bill, SB1617 to be exact, that would provide immunity for homeowners against civil lawsuits filed by people injured in their homes if they convicted of committing felony burglary at the time of the injury.

We see it here all too often: burglary tries to break into house, burglary falls through skylight and injuries self, burglary sues homeowner and wins, God cries.

Well, not anymore. You hear me Hawaii? Way to go! You’re getting a fruit basket from me.

I don’t get it…Why does the burglar sue the homeowner when it’s all his own fault?

I can’t believe a law like this is even necessary. You know the whole worlds gone mad when some poor guy gets sued blind by a guy that hurt himself while trying to rob the person blind….

This law shouldn’t be necessary, but still, Kudos to Hawaii
