I know it’s an extreme case of schadenfreude but there’s always a place in my heart for lawsuits that come from major food franchises against Mom ‘n Pop business who have similar names to their mediocre food. It’s just a matter of time before Burger King or Subway copyright the word “food” and the world will be theirs for the taking.

NORTH YORKSHIRE, England (The London Times) — The landlady of a small English pub on the Pennine Way has won her battle with the fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken, over her “Family Feast” traditional Christmas Day menu.

The battle, reported in The Times yesterday, was joined when KFC’s lawyers at Freshfields, the leading City firm, wrote to Tracy Daly, licensee of the Tan Hill Inn, in North Yorkshire, accusing her of infringing its trademark.

What was KFC’s big mistake? Their “Family Feast” isn’t edible.

The woman in this case first received a letter about the lawsuit but thought it was a joke. That was until the Colonel himself showed up at her door and started smashing all of her belongings with his trademark cane.

The public outrage over the lawsuit, however, forced KFC to back down. How inspiring is that! The people came together to save an innocent woman from the clutches of the evil Colonel. Why I’ll better when all is said and done that we’ll learn he’s not a real colonel.
