Girl sues over detention

September 30th, 2005 · 3 Comments

Freya McDonald, a 15-year-old student at Speyside High School in Morayshire, contested the validity of the detentions she received. She claimed that they “disrupted her education and affected her health”. Her family claimed that the detentions were given for trivial items such as sipping fuzzy drinks in class. Her family claimed that the detentions were unlawful because they took place in her free time.

i think this family has a little to much “free time” to be sueing over a detention

you know not to state the obvious, but thats the point of detention to do it on your own time. however i do agree that sometimes they do give detention for stupid things- but the teachers usually give you fair warning before they give you the boot-unless.

i believe that this girl has taken it too far ….. i was a student at that school and i believe that the detentions are fair and well warned … school rules apply to everyone they cant be adjusted just for one person… I do believe however that detentions are issued in class and have to be done at a lunch time … if they want to take away the teachers time then i believe they have the right to take away a students …. Can anyone tell me what actually happened for this case and whether she won or not ??
