Global Warning

March 6th, 2008 · 31 Comments

You knew it would just be a matter of time before someone filed a suit against Al Gore to try and stop his global world tour of death, destruction and mayhem with Global Warming (and opening act Fall Out Boy). I’ll bet you’ll never be able to guess who wants to file it.

It’s the founder of the Weather Channel, according to The Business and Media Institute.

John Coleman told a group at the International Conference on Climate Change that he wants or wants someone to sue Gore for causing “global warming alarmism.” Of course, Coleman offers no proof that “global warming alarmism” exists, so his case might be on some shaky ground.

He feels that a lawsuit against Gore or other like-minded people would bring some media scrutiny to the “fraud” that is global warming. You know, for a guy who runs a network that can’t predict whether or not it’s going to rain tomorrow, I have a hard time buying the claim that he knows the world isn’t getting warmer by the minute.

I hope he knows about the rain then the law.

“I have a hard time buying the claim that he knows the world isn’t getting warmer by the minute.” On the other hand, I have a hard time buying Al Gore’s claim that he knows the world _is_ getting warmer by the minute.

The Weather Channel has hit a new low.And that’s pretty damn low.

  • 4 veronica // Mar 26, 2008 at 10:11 am

he should be happy alarmism is why people watch the weather channel in the first place nobody actually cares about the weather….idiot

  • 5 Serious Business // Mar 29, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Al Gore is a highly respected scientist. He won the nobel prize!! The world is doomed, it is warming at a seriously alarming rate!! We need to act now, and all buy carbon credits.

  • 6 NY Joe // Apr 10, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Well, Al Gore IS creating alarmism… There’s not even proof that global warming can be influenced by human behavior, and hes leading thousands of people to civil desobedience… That can’t be right…

  • 7 Bully350 // Apr 14, 2008 at 1:36 am

Well quess what… there is a report out on CNN and the BBC that the global temp will be LOWER this year. Global warming? yea right. That should put a wrench in the Al Gore machine.

I wonder if anyone knows that we are still coming OUT of an ice-age. And scientists suspect continentalshift is going to occer 2012,of course i don’t beleive it because the news has a rating system too,so they are going to say what they need to to just get more attention.

  • 9 Michael Case // Apr 17, 2008 at 3:59 am

Where is the proof for both sides. All I know is we get lots of snow.

  • 10 Natalie // Apr 19, 2008 at 2:07 am

how can people think the world is warming? For one thing kno one knows if its even caused by humans, also the media only shows a little part of Alaska or somthing where the ice is melting well the truth is ICE MELTS!! plus in some places its actualy getting colder! And the earths climate changes, its happened befor and its happining now! if the world was on a needle and any little thing were to happen to it or something were to change, say climate, then the world would have ended before the first ice age! hahaha Im only 13 and even I know this! you grown-ups have got to do all you reaserch to get the complete story! dont just believe every thing you hear expesualy the people interveued on the media! =)

  • 12 Jack & Lindsey // May 2, 2008 at 3:38 am

The majority of people in the world do not care about destroying our planet because they will be dead before it happens. Sad but true.

    P.S. luigi akin is illiterate

  • 13 Justin // May 2, 2008 at 7:30 am

I can’t stand Al Gore or his views but he sure is smart for making up all this b.s. and feeding the world with it. I’d like to know how much money he has made off it. Just so you know, global warming is a joke.

  • 14 Jimmy // May 19, 2008 at 10:16 am

It is beyond ludicrous for the Weather Channel to pull of this crap. While I’m no fan of Al Gore and his “inconvenient truth,” the fact remains that “global warming alarmism” is just pure nonsense.

P.S. Jack & Lindsey I don’t believe luigi akin is illiterate as he can read and write. Spelling, grammar, and syntax is a completely different matter of course. A dictionary is a wonderful tool, you should use it sometimes when you’re confused about meanings.

  • 15 Chad // May 24, 2008 at 9:19 am

You know…I don’t really feel strongly about either side of this debate. However, the lack of ‘real’ information in the comments is pretty amusing.

Comments such as “Inconvienent Truth” is complete b.s. are really enjoyable. Let’s pretend that “Inconvienent Truth” showed an earthquake or something…with videos….etc. Are you proposing that the earthquake is in fact false? That is never happened? That all of the instances in the movie are fake? This type of generalization reaks of uninformed people who feel because their shephard told them too.

However, a valid point would have went something like:
Parts of “Inconvienent Truth” are b.s. and here is why.
    1. Fact A http:linktoFactA an unbiased source.
    2. Fact B http:linktoFact B an unbiased source.

I am concerned about one fact though. People are clearly passionate about the world NOT getting warmer and they are even generally using hateful language. But, to test their intelligence and their knowledge…let me ask a question.

Are you proposing that if you have a working system and then you fill it with unnatural gases/matter/etc that it will not have an effect on that system?

The planet is clearly designed to provide and receive various types of gases for example in a way that is natural to the planet. When we add in factories, cars, etc, etc, etc, etc…doesn’t that mean that the planet is now receiving more gases than it is meant to?

So you are saying – without a doubt – being the informed people you are – that all of this extra gas has absolutely ZERO effect on the planet? That is absurb and almost laughable.

I understand this is probably very complicated for people…who say that the idea of Global Warming is COMPLETE B.S. So here is another example.

If you take 200 people who only know English and you put them into a fake society that is controlled. There is a certain amount of businesses, money, food, houses, etc. Then you throw in 75 people who do not know English….and you don’t increase anything else…what will happen to the working system?”

    It will collapse.

So, to say that Global Warming is false, is not being informed. It is almost embarrassing. While all claims on Global Warming might NOT be true…the basis of it makes perfect sense.

Only Americans are stupid enough NOT TO believe that mankind is screwing up our planet.

I am not going to lecture the lot of you here – if you can’t fathom what you’ve already been told I don’t stand a chance in hell to influence you, but rest assured, you will, eventually, wake up from your fat-induced slumber. Hope it’s not too late for us all.

  • 17 Turomig // Jan 9, 2009 at 7:50 am

First I must beag your parden for spelling mistakes in this comment, but please read anyway. I`m not native english speaker and trying my best here.
I must say, to all of you that uses the “There’s not even proof that global warming can be influenced by human behavior” (yes I`m quoting someone here). So what you are saying is basicly “we don`t know if we are doing anything” right? Well say that we are? There is maby now way of knowing. But try denying that polarice is melting, there are fotographig profe. Something is happening. So lets say you “nonbelivers” are right. We are dead, poff, no more about that. Then say you are wrong, same result, poff, we are dead. But this time we killed our selfs. Sounds apealing to anybody? If so, call suiside hotline.
So who is right, don`t know. I can only guess. But what I belive is this. There might be 50-50 % that ether is correct. So why chouse the one that makes us kill ourselfs?

Thank you for taking your time.

  • 18 Turomig // Jan 9, 2009 at 7:54 am

P.S. Chad, if you don`t mind I will yous your words next time I speak about this with my friends becouse they are the best I have ever read/heard in this debat. You could teach Al a thing or to my friend. D.S.

  • 19 Lauren // Jan 10, 2009 at 1:54 am

Global warming is a myth! Read Michael Crieghton’s book State of Fear. All his sources are verifiable. Al Gore is in no way a scientist, and he won the nobel PEACE prize. Carbon credits don’t do shit, either.

The truth is we know NOTHING about long- term enviornmental change. “Global Warming” is a myth designed to cause fear.

    lanfear08@gmail.com

  • 20 Turomig // Jan 10, 2009 at 4:01 am

Then one must ask, why would somebody spread a mith of this proportion? Answer this and I will start listening to you. Seriously, WHY would anybody (exept bad guys in bad movies and games) want to create sutch fear? It dosen`t make sence.

  • 21 Lauren // Jan 11, 2009 at 6:52 pm

    Simple. Money.

How much have you spent on “eco-friendly” products in the past few years?

Power. Al Gore won a Nobel peace prize and may try to run againin 2012.

On the money issue, any company with “Earth”, “green” or “enviornment” is automatically better than anything else.
For example, next time you’re in a store, look at the cleaning products. Most will have a “green” or “eco- friendly” seal on the label. People buy them, regardless of extra cost, even though most do nothing for the planet.

  • 22 Turomig // Jan 12, 2009 at 4:59 am

Oh yes Al Gore dooo own alot of those companies now that you say that… Making my point? HE has no reason. Well take a lock in your store yourself. Though I don`t know what country you are from, I know that where I`m from the prises differ with maby 3 kr (thats 8 kr/ US dollar). Holy Sh*t I`m getting poor by bying that. Weah right. And if there is a bigger diffrence in your country then blame the shops for fooling people.

  • 23 Lauren // Jan 20, 2009 at 10:02 pm

There are many honest scientists being decieved with incomplete scientific data. There are spots in Antarctica becoming COLDER, but I’ve never seen the data outside a scientific journal.

Al Gore is a POLITICIAN. He has alot of influence and political experience. Most people have a positive concept of him. If he ran for any office,he would very likely win. I’m not sure if he has seen the complete data, but either way he has made millions of dollars from ticket and dvd sales. Not to mention all the good ecological awareness he has raised.
But he is NOT any kind of scientist.

Yes,difference of price for green products is small, but it really adds up quickly. We’re in a bad economy, so why pay more for the same product, minus dye?

Ex. Say a store sells 50 products per day. so for every product sold, there is an extra dollar in profit. (selling price $4- net profit $2). $50 *$2 so the net profit from a single store is $100. Per day. Multiply that by 150,000 stores. 365 days a year.

Don’t forget- producers of “green” products get tax breaks and other incentives. (subsidies, loans, etc.)

See how much money there is to be had?

A small price increase isn’t going to bankrupt consumers, but we’re capitalists. People buy “green”, so the companies that cannot compete are going bankrupt.

  • 24 Lauren // Jan 20, 2009 at 10:16 pm

    mistake
Ex. Say a store sells 50 products per day. so for every product sold, there is an extra dollar in profit. (selling price $4- net profit $2). $50 *$2 so the net profit from a single store is $100. Per day. Multiply that by 15000 stores. (rough estimate) 365 days a year.
Take that total, divide it in half.

That is the EXTRA profit over any regular cleaner.

I got 273,750,000. For one “green” company over anyone else.

  • 25 Turomig // Jan 21, 2009 at 12:54 am

I must say, Lauren my friend, this has been a really fun time discusting this with you but I must now end it with the words “I am beaten”. Not saying I am convinced that you are right (I still belive we are scrued one way or the other) but I have nothing more even slightly intulectual to add to my arguments. I salute thie, intulectual mind and hope to discust more things in the future;)

  • 26 KnuckleNose // Jan 22, 2009 at 9:53 pm

Lauren, you have fallen into a common logical fallacy and in your rush to find fault with those who ‘profit’ from the eco product movement have chosen to ignore those that make a profit from the status quo.

yes, the evidence is in that parts of antarctica have shown evidence of cooling, although the recent results released in the last few weeks has come in to show that overall antarctica is warming at the same rate.

The reasons for this disparity between previous observations and current ones are also clearly explained in the recent released information. It has a lot to do with the evaporative cooling effect in play with phase shifts between states of matter. i.e. solid to liquid, liquid to gas

Of course you will just disregard this as part of the conspiracy to fool us all because it is something you dont want to beleive.

As for the logical fallacy, Sure Al Gore does appear to make money from spreading the word. This does not mean what he spreads is false, just that he has seen a way to make money.

I have not yet seen any arguement against the global warming concept that has not been shown to be based on faulty assumptions and arguements. Again this does not mean that there is not reason to question the concept but keeping an open mind and evaluating the evidence as presented a well as any counter arguments.

Anything else is just deceiving yourself.

  • 27 Angry Environmentalist // Mar 17, 2009 at 3:51 am

Okay, I have several things to point out. The first one is that the average temperatures of our planet are increasing. Many measurements of global average annual temperature have established this. The second one is that through computer simulations, scientists have rather strong evidence that there are human contributions to this climate change. When only the natural causes are put into the simulation, it fails to describe what has been happening, while simulations that include both natural and man-made causes have been remarkably accurate. The third thing is that the scientific community has stated that they are 99% certain that human-caused climate change is a real issue, and, according to scientists I’ve spoken to, that is about as certain as they ever get about anything. The fourth and final thing is that if we fail to act on global warming and it is a real threat, then the end result will be complete environmental, societal, and economic meltdown. If we act and it isn’t a real threat, then the worst that could happen is economic meltdown, and that isn’t too much worse than what is already happening.

    Finally! someone intelligent!

  • 29 Sam // May 27, 2009 at 6:21 pm

Everyone knows the Earth is heating up (at least I hope everyone does) the argument is whether humans are doing it or not. And of coarse its mankind’s fault, where do you think all the pollution is going, or maybe you think pollution cools stuff down.

  • 30 ACE // Jun 17, 2009 at 7:42 am

Global Warming is not a joke … It is a very serious concern… Ppl need to realise the importance of protecting the evnvironment
… We messed up all these years but we still have time . .. ice caps are melting we probably have 10 years or so before the damage reaches the point of no return … And for those who dont believe in this can probably wait 4 a few more years and then when they burn to death, these retards will realise wat has hapnd.

  • 31 Anonymous // Jul 18, 2009 at 8:42 am

You guys do realize that the Earth is a system of ever changing enviroments, right?

The Earth has been around for BILLIONS of years. The Earth has been through far worse than us.

The Earth has been through worldwide fires, worldwide floods, continental drifts, the magnetic reversal of the poles, meteoric bombardment, asteroid crashes that possibly eliminated the dinosaurs, glacier drifts, worldwide draughts… and you want to believe that a few /hundred/ years of industry and some plastic bags and aluminum cans are endangering this big blue ball of dirt that is floating around the Sun?

The enviroment will be fine LONG after we are gone. It is a self-correcting system, meaning that WHATEVER we do, will eventually correct and be adapted into the enviroment. That is what it does.

If you believe that all this hooplah about going green and SAVING the enviroment /isn’t/ about the BILLIONS of dollars this scare-mongering has produced, you need to wake up.

The ice age happened, read your history books, I truly don’t believe the primitive mammals that existed then were polluting the enviroment to cause MILES of ice to retreat to the polar caps. Temperatures rise, temperatures fall, that is what nature does and has done over millenia of years.

Wake up and smell the maple nut crunch.
