I Put a Spell on You

Man, where was this story when I was dying for something to write about on Halloween? I was this close to printing a story about the federal appeals case of Freddy vs. Jason.

According to the Associated Press, a man in Cyprus took a woman to court for the act of sorcery.

We are sorcerers in America, too. We call them nerds. Nerdery is only considered a misdemeanor here.

The man claimed the woman ruined his relationship with his wife and mother-in-law by cursing him. Ironically, that was the problem he had with his mother-in-law.

The remedy involved taking an egg, a spoon, a nail, some pubic hairs and underpants. I’m also sure a beer keg and a lot of giggling were also on the menu.

This one’s a bit dated (the incident ocurred in 1996, the lawsuit in 2000).

The following was “clipped” from http://www.aclu.org/religion/schools/16295prs20001026.html

In a case reminiscent of the Salem Witch trials, the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma today filed a federal lawsuit charging that school officials violated 15-year-old Brandi Blackbear’s rights when they accused her of casting a hex that resulted in a teacher’s illness.

That’s, well…pretty nasty if I do say so myself.
