Say what you will about their lack of morals and ethics, but you have to admit this plan from four inmates to threaten a warden with legal action by copyrighting their own name was a pretty smart one. Oh wait, that’s only if you’re a dolphin with opposable thumbs. Never mind.
According to the London Telegraph, four prisoners threatened to ruin a warden’s life by copyrighting their own name and promising they would sue them if he didn’t give them an early release. Their plan was foiled because the man that helped the prisoners set up their scheme turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.
According to the story, the four men tried to copyright their names and sue the warden for using them without their permission. Michael Vick? Are you reading this?
They then hired someone to freeze the warden’s assets, repossess his vehicles, change the locks on his house and do just about everything they could to him except have his soul pawned for a Nintendo Wii.
It turns out the man who helped them was an undercover cop. The cop reportedly told the inmates “you’ve been zapped!”.

You can’t copyright a name. You can trademark it, but you need a product to use it with and proof of use in the U.S., so this plan would’ve never worked anyways.
